Joan McLean Wall's Obituary
JOAN MCLEAN WALL, 93, of Lovettsville, Virginia, a wonderful homemaker, died at home on Friday, September 10, 2010. Mrs. Wall was born October 18, 1916 in Murray Bridge, S. Australia to the late Archie and Augusta Mae McLean Wright. Four siblings predeceased her. In 1944 she married U.S. Army officer Ray Weber Hodgson and traveled to the United States following WWII in 1946 as an Australian War Bride, braving the crowded conditions on board a troop ship with other woman and children, to join her husband. During the war she served as a staff member for General Douglas MacArthur. She was also proud of the fact she was one of the first female aircraft pilots in Australia. Mrs. Wall returned to Australia in 1974 and married Kenneth Wall. She lived in Adelaide, S. Australia until Ken died in 2004, when she returned to live in Lovettsville with her family.
Mrs. Wall is survived by her beloved son Bart Hodgson and wife Carol of Lovettsville; grandson Jason Miller, his wife Staci, and great grandson August Miller of Lovettsville; and a number of other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 26, 2010 at the Hodgson's home in Lovettsville at 3:00pm.
