Joanne Eleanor Seaver's Obituary
Joanne Eleanor Seaver, 83, of Plainfield, New Jersey, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2022, in Aldie, Virginia.
Joanne was born and raised in Washington, DC. She was the only child of Edward Grimm, originally of Queens, New York, and of Martha Alscher Grimm, originally of Breslau, Germany. Joanne attended Chestnut Hill College, graduating with a degree in education. In 1960, she married Lawrence (Larry) Austin Seaver, her husband of nearly 53 years, who attended Villanova University and who passed away in 2014.
Joanne and Larry raised five children: David Alscher, Edward Seaver, Lauren Seaver, Linda Ortino and Sharon Koorbusch. After 12 years of raising her children in Scotch Plains, NJ, Joanne returned to work at Park Junior High School in Scotch Plains, first as an administrator and then as a Reading teacher. She went on to earn two Master’s Degrees in Education from Kean College while teaching full time. In addition to teaching Reading, Joanne later taught Science and English to 6th and/or 7th graders at Park Junior High School. Joanne retired in 2005.
Joanne had unforgettable, twinkling blue eyes and a beaming, ready smile. However, she will be most remembered for her sweet, sparkling personality, her boundless kindness and selflessness, her compassion for others and her keen intellect. Joanne enjoyed politics, German cooking, caring for her grandchildren, family gatherings and tending to her home and garden. She was also a devout Catholic who, for many years, attended daily mass and was a Eucharistic Minister.
Above all, Joanne was completely devoted to her family. Her children agree that she was quite simply the most wonderful, loving mother on earth. She is – and always will be – beyond beloved.
Joanne leaves her beautiful legacy with her family. In addition to her five children and their spouses, Joanne is survived by her 12 grandchildren: Emma, Jack, McKinley, Martha, Ella, Nicolas, Juliet, Vincent, Danny, Peter, Michael and Jillian.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Friday, July 8, 2022, at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, 101 Oak Crest Manor Drive, Leesburg, Virginia. A Catholic mass will follow the visitation at 12:00PM with Father Kelley presiding. Joanne’s children hope to have a celebration of her life in New Jersey later in the year.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation can be made to the National Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton https://setonshrine.givingfuel.com/mother-seton-fund-2021-22 or to the charity of your choice.
