John M. Abbott, 86, of Leesburg, VA, passed away peacefully on June 26,2026.
John enjoyed a distinguished career spanning decades in international finance and government service. A devoted Treasury attache for the United States government, John served with distinction in Japan, Brazil and Great Britain. John's deep understanding of global markets and diplomatic acumen made him a valued advisor in complex financial negotiations.
John developed his passion for international economics during his academic years at Texas A&M University and Tulane University.
John made new friends and colleagues throughout all stages of his life. He was known for his keen intellect, warm hospitality, and genuine interest in experiencing life to the fullest. He loved to share a good story, often about his world travel experiences.
For 57 years, John shared life's adventures with his beloved wife, Nancy Campbell Abbott, who was his constant companion in both his professional travels and personal journeys until her death in 2020. Together, John and Nancy mentored many young men and women who became extended family.
John is survived by his sisters, Jean Wood (Chip), Kathy Oxford, Elizabeth Karchmer, Patricia Ashton (Bill), Christine Wisian (Richard), Sister - in -law Sally Morris (Tom), Brother - in - law Colin Campbell (Inga), multiple nephews and nieces and many, many dear friends.
The Abbott Family will receive friends for a Funeral Mass at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, 21370 St. Theresa Ln. Ashburn, VA 20147, on Monday July 27, 2026 at 10:30am. Interment will follow at Leesburg Union Cemetery of Leesburg, VA.
