John "Jack" Raymond Campbell's Obituary
John "Jack" Raymond Campbell, a loving husband, devoted father, cherished grandfather and great-grandfather, and loyal friend passed away peacefully on the morning of July 7, 2023. He was 89 years old.
Jack was born at home in Philadelphia, the second child of Joseph Charles Campbell of Killybegs, County Donegal, Ireland, and Catherine Elizabeth Maguire of Philadelphia. Jack is preceded in death by his brother Joseph and sister-in-law Rita, his brother James and nephew Jimmy, and his cousin John Thomas, who was raised by Jack’s parents from a young age.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Janet Campbell (née Deardorff), and his five children: Susan Marano, Kim Neville (James), Cheryl Driscoll (David), Jill Campbell, and Brian Campbell (Bee). He was affectionately known as “Pop Pop” to his twelve grandchildren: David Neville (Kaitlyn), Nicholas Marano, Sarah Neville, Luke Driscoll, Catherine Ortenzio (Bryan), Blake Driscoll, Christian Marano (Emily), Alex Marano (Jessica), Paul Marano, Dakota Campbell, Brandt Campbell and Isabella Campbell plus his four great grandchildren: Conor Neville, Emilia Ortenzio, Violet Neville and Liliana Ortenzio. He is also survived by his sister, Mary “May” Campbell and his sister-in-laws, Loretta Campbell and Alice Thomas.
Jack lived a life full of love, laughter, and adventure. He was a proud graduate of Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia and a devout Catholic. After graduating he was employed as a draftsman for Philco until he was drafted into the United States Army. He was stationed with the first infantry division at Fort Benning, Georgia, where he served as a draftsman until his honorable discharge in 1963. Jack was an excellent baseball player as a youth and was recruited by the St. Louis Browns. However, he chose to devote his life to the family business, Campbell Moving & Storage in Trevose, Pennsylvania. Jack was a successful businessman, who excelled in sales. He was known for his outgoing personality and ability to connect with people on a personal level. After his retirement, he helped his wife with her retail business until they both retired to Florida, which was a life-long dream of his.
Jack was actively involved in his local community in Montgomeryville, Pennsylvania, where he raised his family. A natural-born athlete, he was an avid golfer and tennis player. Jack organized golf tournaments at PineCrest Country Club where he proudly made a hole-in-one. He led a men’s tennis league for many years at Highpoint Athletic Club in nearby Chalfont, Pennsylvania. Jack was also an accomplished artist having studied oil painting with James Schucker of Bucks County, who had the second most covers on “The Saturday Evening Post” second only to Norman Rockwell.
Jack's family and friends have many fond memories of him. He loved telling jokes with his friends around the kitchen table, classic cars, road trips and Sunday drives with his family. He will always be remembered for his love of life and willingness to help others.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 4, 2023, at Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church in North Wales, Pennsylvania. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. A funeral mass will begin at 11 a.m. followed by his interment at St. John Neumann Cemetery in Chalfont, Pennsylvania.
