John Joseph Daly's Obituary
John Joseph Daly
June 7, 1927 – June 7, 2015
Completed his own circle of life, on the day of his birth, and in the company of his family. He was a generous and supportive father, grandfather and brother, who lead an active life until just weeks before he died.
Born June 7, 1927 in Scranton, PA, his family moved to Arlington, VA when he was young. There, he graduated from W-L High School in 1944 and enlisted the day after in the Army Air Force. Upon discharge, he went on to graduate from The George Washington University, and later GW law school. He put himself through school by working as a steward on Capital Airways, running routes up and down the east coast. He married Betty Lucille Russell and had two sons.
After serving as an Assistant Commonwealth Attorney for Arlington County, and then sole practitioner, he became a founding partner of Siciliano and Daly, specializing as a trial lawyer in civil defense cases. He had a successful law career and was awarded Martindale Hubbell’s “AV” rating, their highest rating, by his peers. In retirement, John took up a second career, first as a feature writer for the Ocala Star Banner, then as a novelist and writer of short stories, published by Outskirts Press.
In his seventies, after 40 years of being single, John rediscovered his high school sweetheart, Florence Frey. They were married December 29, 2003 on a beach in Hawaii and were inseparable until her death March 1, 2011. They traveled extensively and loved each other’s company.
John was preceded in death by his father Stanley W. Daly and mother Clare H. Daly and his brother Robert Paul Daly and sister Marjorie Mary Daly. He is survived by his sister Elizabeth Daly Lewis of Wappingers Falls, NY, and by two sons: Dean Russell Daly (Monica) of Sandy, UT and Christopher John Daly (Elizabeth) of Charlotte, NC. He is also survived by two granddaughters, Sheridan Russell Daly of Salt Lake City, UT and Morgan Christine Daly of Charlotte, NC.
John will be interred beside his beloved wife Flo in a private ceremony. A celebration of his life is planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to Capital Caring Hospice at 2900 Telestar Ct, Falls Church, VA 22042.
