John T. Hines Jr.'s Obituary
John T. Hines, Jr., 62, of Front Royal, VA passed away on April 21, 2024, after a year-long battle with cancer. He was larger than life, full of love, kind, generous, and funny. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
John was born on May 9, 1961, in Winchester, VA. to John T. Hines, Sr. and Shirley F. Crowell.
John was a plumber by trade for over 25 years but decided to expand his knowledge and skills to branch out. Ultimately, he was hired, and loved working at The National Conference Center in Leesburg for the past 12 years, retiring from his position as Maintenance Supervisor last year due to his illness.
He was a member of the Leesburg Moose Lodge 1041 for nearly 30 years. John was a loyal member and a caring friend ready and willing to help and serve the community. For several years, he served as the Lodge Administrator eager to make a difference.
He loved tinkering with his tools and was always trying to fix something, usually a car. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, playing pool on a local league, road trips through the countryside with his fiancé Nina, and caring for his cats. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, often taking them to the park, riding the ATV, or fishing on the Shenandoah River. The most important thing to John was family.
John believed in honesty, fairness, and being a good friend and neighbor. He never knew a stranger. He welcomed everyone with open arms and made everyone feel special. He was full of joy and had the ability to make everyone laugh. Even during his battle with cancer, he remained steadfast in his faith, grateful for the people in his life, and never lost his sense of humor. While we will miss him dearly, we are thankful for our time with him and that he is now resting in peace.
John is survived by his fiancé Nina Hurt of Front Royal, VA; son David Hines of Woodbridge, VA, daughter Tiffany Hines of Manassas, VA, mother Shirley Crowell of St. Leonard, MD; three sisters Glenda Robertson of Woodbridge, VA, Sandy DeToto of St. Leonard, MD; Christina Komons of Largo, FL; and five grandchildren Jaidyn, Ethyn, Maliyah, Ashlyn, and Kamden. He was preceded in death by his father, John T. Hines, Sr.
Visitation with family and friends will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at 12pm with a service immediately following at 1 pm at Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle, SE, Leesburg, VA. A reception celebrating John’s life will be held after the service 2-4 pm at the Leesburg Moose Lodge 1041, 43 Catoctin Circle SE, Leesburg, VA.
John’s family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the many doctors, nurses and staff who supported him in his medical journey, ultimately giving him more time with family and friends. A huge thanks to his long-time friend Danny who gave so much of his time to helping John this past year. And many thanks to the staff and volunteers at The Adler Center who treated our very large family like family.
