John Jonas' Obituary
Mr. John Joseph Jonas, 76, of Ashburn, VA, passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2008, in Arlington, VA. A son of the late John Jonas and the late Charlotte Jezerinitsky Jonas; John was born on March 15, 1932 in NY, NY. Mr. Jonas was a graduate of Lesley College in Boston, MA.
He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
He was a past President of the Mombasha Fire Dept. in Monroe, NY, where he was fireman of the year in 1971.
John was employed by AT&T as an Employee Assistance Counselor, in NY and VA, until retiring in 1987.
John remained an active member of society after retiring. He went to work with Loudoun Co., as a Facility Assistant at the Arcola Community Center. He loved working with people of all ages. He was active with the Loudoun Senior Center in Sterling and the Gotta Dance Troop, where he often held the role of soundman.
John is survived by his wife of …. Years, Florence Marie Jonas of Ashburn, VA; three children: Kathleen Jonas of Ashburn, VA, John Andrew Jonas of Goshen, NY, and Patricia Ellen Delaney of Front Royal, VA.
He is also survived by his brother Frederick Jonas of Key West, FL; and seven grandchildren.
Friends may call on Wednesday, June 18th from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9pm at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle, SE, Leesburg, VA.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2008 at 10:30 am, at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church, 46833 Harry Byrd Highway, Sterling, VA 20164.
Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Leesburg, VA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his the American Heart Association, PO Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058.
