John Joseph Messina's Obituary
Mr. John Joseph Messina, age 89 of Leesburg, VA, passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 2012.
John was born on November 10, 1922 in Castrofillippo, Italy. He was a son of the late Pietro Messina and the late Filomina Baio.
John served his country in the United States Army Air Corp and was a veteran of WWII. He received his Master’s degree in engineering from Newark College of Engineering (New Jersey Institute of Technology). John worked for the Federal Government as a Civil Engineer for over 30 years.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 62 years, Rosina Lucille Messina; three children: Peter and wife Kathy of Sterling, VA, John J. Jr. of Honolulu, HI, and Maggie and son-in-law, Al of Leesburg, VA. He also leaves a sister Josephine Sferrazza of East Yaphank, NY and sister-in-law Josephine Scarano of Leesburg, VA; six grandchildren: Christie Petrone, Paul & Laurie Messina, Ashley, Alyssa and Anna Accardo; and one great granddaughter Claire Petrone.
The family will receive guests on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 from 7 to 9 pm at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle, SE, Leesburg, VA.
A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 10 am, at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 1 pm at the Mount St. Mary Cemetery, Flushing, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mr. Messina’s memory to the Parkinson Foundation of the National Capital Area 7700 Leesburg Pike, Suite 208, Falls Church VA 22043.
