John J. Nethery's Obituary
John Nethery passed away on July 4th peacefully at home at the age of 74. John was born in Minneapolis, MN on June 4, 1941. He was the son of Dr. Ronald Nethery and Mary (McVeety).
He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years Sonya Elisabeth, a son William Jay Nethery and a daughter Sarah Ann Scott (Matthew). A daughter Mary Elisabeth preceded him in death in 1989. He is also survived by two grandchildren who stole his heart, Mary Elisabeth and James Matthew. A sister Mary Dold, niece Kristi Mueller and nephew John Dold.
He will remembered as a caring, loving man who had a witty sense of humor. His passions in life were studying history and genealogy. He loved cooking, traveling and gardening. But most of all spending his time with his family who he was always so proud of.
John graduated in 1963 with a bachelor’s degree and in 1968 with Master of Public Administration from the University of Denver. In 1969 he was assigned as a budget analyst for the Air Force, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. In 1972 he transferred to The Pentagon in Washington, DC where is served as a budget analyst in several positions. And in 1980 he was selected for the Senior Executive position of Chief Investment Appropriations Division. He was senior executive fellow at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University in 1982. From 1981 to 1985 he served as Chief of Budget Management Division. He was Deputy Assistant Secretary for Programs and Budget until he was selected for Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Financial Operations in 1987. John worked for the Air Force for 35 years until his retirement in 2002. He continued to work part time as a Senior Consultant for JP Associates, Inc. until 2014.

A memorial service was held at Loudoun Funeral Chapel on Saturday, July 18th at 1:00 PM at 158 Catoctin Cir SE, Leesburg, VA 20175, www.LoudounFuneralChapel.com
Interment was held privately by the family on Monday July 20, 2015 at Stonewall Memory Gardens.
