Jorman D. Granger
Ashburn, VA — Jorman D. Granger, 56, died peacefully in his sleep on August 6, 2011 at the Halquist Memorial Inpatient Hospice in Arlington, VA.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 13 years, Betsy Granger; his sons, Daurent Granger and Armond Granger; his mother, Mildred Granger; his brothers, Melforde (Vanessa) Granger and Darryl Granger; his former wife, Natasha Triplett; his stepsons Christopher (Victoria) Steidel and Joel Steidel; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and a multitude of friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Alfonso Granger, who passed in October of 2010.
Born in Brooklyn, NY on May 20,1955, the Granger family lived in Jamaica Queens until moving to Hempstead on Long Island. Jorman graduated from Uniondale High School in 1973 (NY triple jump state champ) and with honors from Cornell University in 1977. As a senior at Cornell, he was captain of the track team that won the Heptagonal Track Championship and won the gold that year as well. He received his MBA at Morgan State University in 1982.
Mr. Granger began his career with CBS News in NYC/Manhattan. His early exposure to IT led him to IBM's executive and regional positions. He was selected by IBM to help start an international version of the IBM Institute for Electronic Government in Johannesburg, South Africa. While at IBM, he served Virginia Governor L. Douglas Wilder as his Deputy Chief of Staff. His responsibilities included the day-to-day operations of state government and management of the Governor’s Cabinet Secretaries. As a VP at GTECH in RI, he built a global business development unit focused on transaction payment services, as well as mergers and acquisitions by establishing operations in Mexico, Brazil, England, the U.S., Poland and Turkey. Accenture recruited him as a Partner in 2003 to take on regional and national responsibilities. Upon retiring from Accenture, he joined Northrop Grumman, as Vice President, Client Accounts to guide and expand the largest state government IT outsourcing in the United States. He was the Sector Account Director for commercial, state and local business development for the Atlantic region from Delaware through Florida and as far west as Texas.
Mr. Granger was currently serving on the Cornell University Advisory Council, as well as the Board of Directors for LEAD Virginia.
While Mr. Granger was an accomplished man, he was most deeply loved and respected for his strong faith in Christ and his love for and firm dedication to family, friends and colleagues. Motown music was in his heart, golf with his buddies was his relaxation and his home was his haven. He is irreplaceable.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 11th at 12:30 pm at Community Lutheran Church, 21014 Whitfield Place in Sterling, VA.
