Joseph L. Ambers' Obituary
On January 30, 2024, Joseph "Joe" Louis Ambers, was called to eternal rest at INova Loudoun Memorial Hospital in Lansdowne, Virginia. Joe was born Friday, May 7, 1943, in Lucketts, Virginia. He was the youngest of 11 children to the late Charles Franklin Ambers, Sr., and Myrtle Vernita Pollard Ambers.
He lived in Leesburg most of his life, and attended Douglass High School where he met his beloved wife. On March 31, 1962, they were united in marriage in Paeonian Springs, VA, by Rev. Tywann. Their union lasted for 61 years.
After they got married, they moved to New York City. He worked for B Altman, Inc. in New York as an engineering assistant. In 1974 he was involved in an explosion while working, which led to his early retirement. He and his family moved back to Leesburg. One of his many jobs he worked as a mixologist, he assisted Authur Phillps on the sanitation truck and worked for Doug Holler, at the Holler Motor Company in Leesburg.
Joe enjoyed a good game of Bid Whist, loved playing poker, watching Michael Jordan, when he was with the Chicago Bulls and hollering at the TV while watching the Commanders on Sunday night football. Joe loved people, he filled his day driving around visiting neighbor to neighbor just like his father, he never met a stranger.
He rededicated his life to Christ in 1991, at First Mount Olive Baptist Church in Leesburg, Virginia; under the leadership of the Reverend Harold S. Stinger. He was an active member in the church, serving on the Trustee board, and assisted his wife with church projects. He also enjoyed attending Bible Study and Sunday School.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife Christine Marie Ambers, their two sons Barrington and Christopher Ambers, and daughter/granddaughter Kristina Vesprey (Rashad). Three Granddaughters Kristal Tartt, Kristina Vesprey and Kiara Ambers and Eight great-grandchildren; Destini, Javon, Faith, Hope Tartt, Kristian and Isaiah Broady, Jurnee and Jonae Vesprey. He is also survived by one sister, Grace Anderson and one brother, Raymond Ambers; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends. Mrs. Phyllis Goodwin & family, Mrs. Ophelia Johnson & family are longtime family friends.
In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by Mamie Hall, Lena Ambers, Herman Ambers, Viola Gholston, Charles Ambers Jr., Martha Stokes, Preston Ambers, and Christine Anderson.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 9, 2024, from 6 to 8 pm at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle, SE, Leesburg, VA 20175.
A visitation will also be held at church on Saturday, February 10, 2024, from 10 to 11 am.
Funeral services to celebrate Joe's life will begin at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at the First Mount Olive Baptist Church located at 216 Loudoun Street, SW Leesburg, Virginia 20175, with the Rev. Harold S. Stinger officiating.
Interment will follow in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Hamilton, VA.
