JOSEPH FASCESKI's Obituary
Joseph (Joe) Fasceski, of Sterling, VA, passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2022, at the age of 80.
Joe was born in Honesdale, PA, to the late Alexander and Pauline (Murzinsky) Fasceski in 1942, the youngest of four boys. He grew up in Rileyville on a dairy farm where he developed his love of the outdoors and learning to fix anything that could break.
He enlisted in the US Marine Corps straight out of high school, hitch hiking his way down to Parris Island for boot camp. From there, he was stationed in Japan and was honorably discharged in 1964.
In 1965, he married Yone Kobayashi and they split their time between the United States and Japan. In 1970, they made their final move to Japan where Joe became a father to 3 children, started a meat home delivery service, worked for the Stars and Stripes newspaper and went to college. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration-Economics (1972) and MBA (1974) from Sophia University in Tokyo.
Upon the family’s move to the US in the late 1970s, Joe became a life-long federal employee, retiring from the Department of Labor. He earned his MPA from University of Oklahoma in 1980 and a post graduate degree from Naval War College in 1995.
Joe became an officer in the US Army Reserve in 1978, climbing to the rank of Lt. Colonel. He continued to serve until he was forced to retire at the mandatory age of 60. As much as he fought that retirement, he had the last laugh as he returned to active duty at the age of 66 to spend a year in Iraq, and was awarded the Bronze Star. He followed that tour as a government contractor, serving a year in Afghanistan at the age of 70. During his off-hours of his retirement, he kept himself busy helping his friends and family, hunting and establishing small business ventures.
Joe is survived by his wife Yone, his three children, Theresa and husband Terry, Jeffrey and wife Lauren, and Margaret, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Frank, Alexander and Edward.
The family will received friends on Thursday, January 5, 2023, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm, at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel.
