Joseph Nicholas Figueroa's Obituary
JOSEPH NICHOLAS FIGUEROA, 37 of Ashburn, Virginia died on Saturday, April 29, 2023, in Southern Pines, North Carolina.
Born Saturday, April 19, 1986, in Pequannock, New Jersey, he was the son of Bill Shappell and Toni DeLalla Shappell and the beloved husband of Marie Figueroa.
Joseph was a loving father and husband who enjoyed spending time with his family hiking, exploring parks, playing ball in the yard, helping with homework and traveling to the beach for vacation. He took pride in raising his sons and his dreams for their future.
Joseph dedicated his life to the service of his Country. As a committed leader and decorated Soldier of over fourteen years, Joseph exemplified unwavering achievement and bravery in service to the United States of America. He was a combat veteran deployed seven times to Iraq, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, and Somalia. The U.S. Army recognized Joseph for his honorable service with two Bronze Star Medals, a Joint Service Commendation Medal, three Army Commendation Medals, and four Army Achievement Medals.
Joseph leaves behind many to cherish his memory including his wife, Marie, sons Anthony Figueroa, Marcello Figueroa, and Phoenix Feenan, ex-wife Tasha Feenan, brother George Figueroa and parents Toni and Bill Shappell.
A funeral service with Military Honors and reception to follow will be held at Ft. Belvoir Chapel (Tulley Gate), in Virginia on May 18, 2023, at 1:00pm. Those planning to attend must provide details to the Visitor Center/Tulley Gate at Ft. Belvoir (located at 9500 Pohick Rd, Fort Belvoir VA 22060) by clicking Ft.
