Joseph C. Lu's Obituary
Joseph C. Lu, 70, of Ashburn, VA, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2015 at Fairfax Hospital after an extended illness.
Born on October 2, 1944 in Fuchow, China he was the son of the late Syth-Kwen Lu and Shu-Ho Chen. He was raised in Taiwan where he was educated and married Sylvia in 1971. In 1971, he came to the United States where he earned a Master’s Degree from the University of Missouri at Rolla. In 1975, he moved to Rochester, New York. He became a U.S. Citizen in 1979. In 1980, he founded Lu Engineers, a civil and environment engineering firm renowned and awarded for its work throughout Western New York. He retired in 2007 and transitioned control of Lu Engineers to its employees, who continue to operate under that name. In 2011, he and Sylvia moved to Ashburn, Virginia. In retirement, he traveled extensively and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Mr. Lu was known for his dedication to the Lord and involvement with Browncroft Community Church, Rochester Chinese Christian Church, and Grace Christian Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Sylvia Lu; children Lydia Scripter and her husband Lucas, Miriam Prantner and her husband, Andrew, Esther Spare, and her husband Daniel and Theodore Lu and his wife, Melissa; grandchildren, Eleonora, Carina, Collin and Connor; mother, Shu-Ho; and siblings, Chia-Lin Lu and I-Le Lu.
A memorial service was held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Grace Christian Church, Herndon, VA.
