Joseph Francis McMurrer's Obituary
Joseph Francis McMurrer passed away on November 29, 2022 in Leesburg, Virginia after a battle with cancer. He was 92 years old. Joe is survived by his wife of 73 years, Margaret Louise (Peggy), his three children, Nancy Darr Quinn, Katherine Hughes Glibbery, and David Joseph McMurrer, his eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Joe was born March 27, 1930 in Washington, DC. He married Peggy, his high school sweetheart, at the age of 19. Joe began his career with the Washington Metropolitan Police on August 6, 1952, reaching the rank of Sergeant before retiring on July 1, 1974. He also served 20 years in the Army Reserve, retiring as a Sergeant Major. In addition to that, he was a bus driver for Loudoun County Schools for about 30 years, retiring in his eighties.
Joe was an avid outdoorsman, gardener and tinkerer. He had a unique way with words, and had a word of wisdom or piece of common-sense philosophy to spice up a conversation.
The family will receive friends and family on Tuesday December 06, 2022 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM at Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Cir. SE, Leesburg, VA, 20175.
Another Visitation will also be held on Wednesday December, 07, 2022 from 1030am to 11:30am which will be followed by a catholic Mass at 11:30AM at Saint John the Apostle Catholic Church, 101 Oakcrest Manor Dr. Leesburg, VA 20176. Internment will be held at Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Herndon, VA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, the Alzheimer's Association or to your local Hospice organization.
