Joseph Mullens' Obituary
Master Chief JOSEPH ROBERT MULLINS, U.S.N. Retired, 84, a resident of Forest Glenn Senior Village in Centreville, Virginia died on Friday August 29, 2008 in Fair Oaks, Virginia. Mr. Mullins was born March 1, 1924 in New York, NY to the late Frank and Florence Mullins. He retired from the United States Navy in 1963 after 21 years of service and continued to serve his country with the Department of Defense- Navy as a Teletype technician for another 22 years before retiring in 1984. Mr. Mullins resided in San Diego, California for many years before his retirement where he participated in volunteer organizations such as the U.S. Navy Sea Cadet’s program and the Boy Scouts of America. After retiring to Arizona he continued to serve his community by taking on many senior positions with the Boy Scouts of America where he was awarded their highest honor the ‘Beaver Award.’ He moved in August of 2006 to Virginia to be closer to his son, daughter in law and grandchildren.
Mr. Mullins is survived by his son John and wife Marcy Mullins of Leesburg, Virginia; two sisters: Honey Ryan of Long Island, NY, Madelyn Foster of Melbourne, Florida; one brother: Norman Mullins of Chincoteague, Maryland; four grandchildren: Jaymi, Corryn, Sean, and Connor Mullins all of Leesburg; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at 1:00pm October 17th at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.
