Josephine Formica Romani's Obituary
Josephine Formica Romani, 90, of Purcellville, VA, native of Johnstown, PA, died March 22, 2023. Born March 15, 1933, daughter of Salvatore and Angeline (Arrera) McFormick.
Proceeded in death by parents, husband Sanzio Romani, infant daughter, sister Palma Formica, and her sister-in-law Janet (Lavely) Formica.
Survived by her brothers, Sam Formica and Andy Formica and his wife Linda (Conley) Formica, her son Marco and his wife Teri Felix of Burlingame, CA and her daughter Marcella and her husband Keith Hudson of Purcellville, VA. Grandchildren Joshua Hudson, Alexia Romani, Timothy Hudson, and Nicolo Romani as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, cousins, and close friends.
Josephine was a 1951 graduate of Johnstown Catholic High and a 1953 graduate of University of Pittsburgh. She served as a medical translator and interpreter for the Australian Embassy in Rome after graduation. She was very active in her children’s education and served as PTA President at Cypress Elementary School from 1974-1979. In 1986, she began her teaching career as a Chemistry teacher at the Greater Johnstown Area Vo Tech school. She retired from teaching in 2003 after 19 years of service. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
In retirement, she was a devoted grandmother and enjoyed various hobbies, especially ceramics, painting, and crocheting. She was an avid reader as well.
Jo was very active in the Johnstown chapter of American Association of University Women (AAUW) of which she served as President from 2004 – 2010.
The family would like to acknowledge Linda Neena of Leesburg, VA for the devoted and loving care she provided to Josephine and our family during her time in Virginia.
