Karen Velez's Obituary
Karen Velez, age 75, of Charlotte, NC passed away on March 12, 2023 after battling lung cancer for the third time.
Karen was born in Schiller Park, Illinois on April 16, 1947. She was the first of three children born to Rudolph (Mona) Prien and Lucille (Reiss) Spore.
The devoted wife of George Velez and loving mother of Rebecca (Velez) Jackson and son-in-law Stevie Jackson, she was also a proud and loving grandmother to Quentin, Taylor, and Peyton. She is survived by her brother Ronald Prien and his wife Darlene Hartman, brother-in-law David Williams, and sisters-in-law Mary Lou Richards and Candy Velez. She also leaves behind Todd (Colleen) Williams, Scott (Heather) Williams, Nicole (Kurt) Myers, Christine (Jose) Gomez, Jodi (Stephen) Hansen, Elizabeth (Matt) Latham, and Ryan (Lara) Velez. Karen is predeceased by her parents Lucille Spore and Rudolph Prien and her sister, Susan Williams.
She attended college for Accounting and later used those skills to better the world around her. Ever a philanthropist, Karen spent her 30+ years in Loudoun County serving the community. She was involved in Interfaith Relief, Daily Bread, Birthday Blessings, Girl Scouts, The Community Holiday Coalition, United Way, Tax programs(VITA), pajama programs and more.
Karen will be remembered by her friends and family as having a loving heart, a caring and beautiful smile, and a great affection for chickens
Visitation will be held, on Saturday, May 13th, from 9:30 am to 10:30am, at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle, SE, Leesburg, VA 20175. A memorial service will be held after the visitation on Saturday the 13th at 10:30am .
Internment will be held in Leesburg Union Cemetery. 323 N King St, Leesburg, VA 20176.
