Katharyne Sullivan MD's Obituary
Katharyne Mary Sullivan, M.D., 48, died on Saturday, August 11th 2012 after a valiant battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia at the Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. Dr. Sullivan was born July 8th 1964 in New York City. She was raised in Pittsford, NY and received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Rochester in 1987. A few years after marrying the love of her life she decided to further her education at the University of Buffalo Medical School. Dr. Sullivan completed her Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Residency at the University of Rochester in 1997 and started her career at the Behavioral Health Services, Washington County Health Systems in Hagerstown, MD. She worked there for several years before moving to Leesburg in 2001 to pursue the position of Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at Graydon Manor (a children's home) in Leesburg, VA. In 2005 Kathy decided to start her own practice called Children and Families First in Leesburg where she began to treat not only children, but families and adults. In 2011 Kathy joined Grafton Integrated Health Network as their new Chief Medical Officer. She was looking forward to this new chapter in her career but quickly became ill. Over the years she was a very athletic woman who completed a triathlon, enjoyed sailing and loved to ski.
Dr. Sullivan is survived by her beloved husband of 25 years Alan Thomas Sullivan of Leesburg; three wonderful children: Robert, Hannah and Thomas “Max” Sullivan all of Leesburg; her parents: Wirt M. and Mary Anne Linck Chaney of Ashburn, VA; three siblings: Michael Chaney of Vail, CO, Maryanne Chaney and David Chaney of New York, NY and a host of other relatives and friends.
Friends may call at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Cr. SE in Leesburg on Wednesday, August 15th 2012 from 6-8pm. A mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00am on Thursday, August 16th at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, 55 Oak Crest Manor in Leesburg. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
