Kathe Martha Santini's Obituary
Kathe Martha Santini passed peacefully, with grace and dignity, on June 15, 2016 in Ashburn, VA from a myeloproliferative process. She was 89 years old.
Kathe was born on September 3, 1926 in Eddelak, Germany to Peter and Minna Brandt, where she grew up on a farm with two brothers and two sisters. Kathe had a passion for horses and loved to travel when she was young. She came to the United States in 1956 where she met her husband of 50 years, Ned Santini. He too, was an immigrant, from Croatia. They married in 1959 in Greenwich, CT and went on to raise two daughters, living in Norwalk, CT for many years, then Dallas, TX , Chesterfield, MO, and eventually Hilton Head, SC.
Having lived through World War II in Europe, both Kathe and Ned felt so fortunate to be able to live in the United States and for the opportunity it afforded them and their two girls. The importance of education, and the pursuit of hard work and dedication to excellence, was instilled in their daughters. Kathe and Ned truly lived the American Dream, achieving much success and happiness, retiring to Hilton Head Island, SC. They adored and were so proud of their daughters, and so enjoyed their beautiful grandchildren. Kathe's husband Ned predeceased her in 2009.
Kathe was a gentle woman who carried herself with understated elegance, and she maintained an inner grace that was evident throughout her life. Kathe Santini is survived by her daughters Angela Santini, M.D. of McLean, VA and Tina Olson of Chatham, NJ, their husbands William Sullivan and Todd Olson, grandchildren Will, Sydney, Taylor, and Alexandra, and her sister Telse Borchardt of Cologne, Germany and many nieces and nephews in Germany.
A private memorial service will be held in Long Cove Club Plantation on Hilton Head Island, SC this summer.
