Kathleen G. Murdock's Obituary
Kathleen G. Murdock left her journey of life on May 26, 2019 at age 48 after a long battle with metastatic breast cancer. She was born in Lafayette, Indiana on December 11, 1970, the youngest of three daughters of Thomas E. and Martha J. (Kraay) Murdock now living in Leesburg, VA. She is survived by sisters Kristy L. Murdock, Beverly A. Murdock and nephew Brandon M. Armstrong, all of Leesburg and partner John David Kimbrough of Centreville, VA. Preceding her in death were her grandparents, Alice and Robert Kraay and Maxine and Earl Murdock.
Kathy attended the University of Illinois where she obtained both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music Education. She was a member of the Illini Symphonic Band as an accomplished flute and piccolo player. She was a Fairfax County elementary school music teacher at Fort Belvoir, VA for over 20 years. She loved her job and her peers and adored every one of her students over the years. She also loved cats and found it difficult to ever pass one up.
Kathy enjoyed photography and crafting, especially making jewelry. She was an avid kayaker and enjoyed helping others and fixing things or turning found objects into something else.
A celebration of Kathy’s life will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 beginning at 4:30pm at the Officer’s Club on Fort Belvoir. All are welcome. Details below with regard to visiting the Officer’s Club.
