Kathyrn "Kathy" Irene Marsh's Obituary
Celebrating the Life of Kathyrn “Kathy” Irene Marsh
Kathy was a woman of sharp intellect and even sharper wit, whose heart was as open as the books she spent her life treasuring. A lifelong champion of literacy, she passed away peacefully, leaving behind a beautiful legacy woven through 36 years of dedicated service as a librarian.
She grew up in and around Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as the youngest of four children and the first in her family to attend college. Kathy graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with a Bachelor of Science in Education before earning her Master of Arts in Library and Information Science from the University of Maryland. Moving to Virginia in 1974, she built a life with purpose in Loudoun County, serving for seventeen years as the Librarian at Loudoun County High School and another eight years at Potomac Falls High School. After retiring as an Acquisitions Librarian in 2011, Kathy remained a cornerstone of her community, serving as President of the Woman's Club of Loudoun. A warm and gracious hostess, she brought the family together for countless birthday celebrations, holiday gatherings, and family dinners. Kathy enjoyed reading, crocheting, making handmade greeting cards, playing bridge, cribbage, and Words with Friends, attending lunch gatherings, and visiting Bethany Beach with Rick.
As the last of her immediate family, Kathy was preceded in death by her dear parents, James and Evelyn Burow, brothers, James (Loretta) Burow and Robert “Finny” Burow, sister, Janet (Robert) Szymakowski, and her niece, Emily Marsh. While she marks the end of her family’s generation, her cheerful spirit lives on in the lives she touched. She is survived by her devoted significant other, Richard “Rick” Webb, her adored nieces, Sue (Jim) Wawrzyniakowski and Jennifer (Mike) Slawny, her brother-in-law David (Cathy) Marsh, and her great-nieces and nephews Angela, Sarah, Jimmy, Brett, Lauren, and Vanessa, as well as many other family and friends.
Friends and family are invited to gather for a memorial visitation at 1:00 PM on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Loudoun Funeral Chapel, located at 158 Catoctin Circle, S.E., Leesburg, VA 20175. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 PM. and all are welcome to join the family afterwards for a reception to share food and memories.
