Kelsey Nicole Burch's Obituary
Kelsey Nicole Burch, 35 of Leesburg, Virginia passed on Sunday, May 2, 2021.
Kelsey was born Tuesday, June 25, 1985 in Falls Church, VA. She was the daughter of James and Diana Fraser. In addition to her parents, Kelsey leaves her family to cherish her memory including her husband Robert Edward Burch, II and her brother, Eric Matthew Fraser.
Kelsey earned an undergraduate degree at James Madison University (JMU) and a Masters degree at Virginia Tech University and worked for Fairfax County Public Schools as an elementary band teacher and director.
Kelsey was an avid traveler, “escape room” enthusiast, alpine skier, and bicyclist who participated in numerous century rides. She was also an intrepid adventurer who took part in skydiving, coasteering (Wales), and canyon swinging (Switzerland).
Kelsey was a highly accomplished musician, who was 1st chair oboe for the JMU Wind Symphony, and played at Carnegie Hall in New York City and at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. She participated in the South Lakes High School and JMU Marching bands playing the flute and tuba and also was part of a fife and drum ensemble.
With help from her friends and family Kelsey commissioned two musical pieces. ‘Stages’ was composed to chronical her journey with cancer and premiered April 26, 2021. The “Stages” performance can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msTufF2bqsw. She also commissioned a fun composition, Scottish tune, for her elementary band students.
A celebration of Kelsey's life will be held at Cornerstone Chapel 650 Battlefield Drive, SE, Leesburg, VA 20175 on Saturday, May 15, 2021 from 10:00 AM to noon.
Interment will be held by the family in Lakeview Cemetery in Hamilton, VA.
