Kenneth Michael 'Mike' Griffith's Obituary
Kenneth Michael ‘Mike’ Griffith, 63, of Sterling, VA, passed away at home on Monday, September 8, 2014 surrounded by his loving family.
A local to Northern Virginia, Mike was born in Arlington on August 25, 1951. He was the son of Joseph Thomas Griffith and the late Elaine Davis Griffith. Raised in Arlington, Mike attended Washington-Lee High School and Virginia Tech.
As a skilled mechanic, he began his working years in various private auto shops. In 1984 he was hired by the US Postal Service where he worked as a Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor. He retired in January after thirty years of dedicated service.
Mike was an avid fan of baseball – GO NATS!—and enjoyed NASCAR racing, especially during the Earnhardt years. He was also a committed Hokie. He was happily content to hang out in his garage tinkering with his family’s “fleet” of vehicles with the wide screen TV broadcasting a sporting event.
His greatest love, though, was his family. He was totally devoted to his wife, Claire, and their daughters Theresa, Leanne, and Carly.
In addition to his beloved wife and daughters, Mike leaves others to cherish his memory including his dad, Tom, and siblings, Sandie Staples, John Griffith, and Suzanne Kelly.
The family received friends on Friday, September 12, 2014 from 7 to 9 pm at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle, SE, Leesburg, VA.
Funeral services began at 11 am on Saturday at the funeral home.
Interment will be held privately at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike’s name to any of the following organizations:
