Laura B. Johnston's Obituary
Laura B. Johnston passed away at her residence at Falcons Landing, Potomac Falls VA on December 17, 2010.
Laura was born in Washoe Montana. She was married to her husband, Col. Andrew A. Johnston, for sixty three years prior to Andrew’s death on December 12, 2010 . Laura is survived by her daughter Kathleen A. Hopkins of Reston, VA, her two sons Robert A. Johnston of Anchorage AK and Michael D. Johnston of Oak Hill VA, her seven grandchildren Andrew and Mark Waskow, Zachary and Amanda Johnston, Robert, Ann and Eleanor Johnston, and by numerous great grand children.
Laura grew up in the state of Montana. After completing high school she moved to California where she attended nursing training at Sacramento Hospital. In 1946 Laura married Col. Andrew A. Johnston and spent the next eighteen years traveling from air force base to air force base and raising her family. In 1963 Laura and her family moved to Annandale, VA and shortly thereafter she began working at INOVA Fairfax hospital. Laura worked at Fairfax hospital for over forty years. She began on the labor and delivery (L@D) floor and was promoted to Management Coordinator of the L@D evening shift in 1976. She continued to work full time until 1988 at which time she elected to work part time as a PRN nurse. She continued to work in that capacity until she retired in 2005. Laura always said that working at Fairfax Hospital was the best years of her life.
Graveside services and interment will be held privately on February 4, 2011.
