Dearest John, Jeff and Emily,
I don't even know where to begin. I just got back down to Virginia from Maine where I spend lots of time since retiring and like always...went to get the Loudoun Times Mirror. I had no idea Laurie was even ill. I hadn't seen her in several years, but on my goodness, the memories we shared! It all began at Guilford where we bonded immediately as fellow Air Force Brats. As an art teacher in the county I had the privilege and joy of working "with" Laurie and "for" Laurie and her love of teaching was simply contagious. Jeff, you and my daughter Molly went to Cee School together so we always met at their little gatherings. I let your mother talk me into coming to Ashburn Elementary when it opened because we loved to work together soooo much, but as soon as she left, I went right back to Middle School Art. She always left me so many sweet notes in my mailbox about the art work in the halls. In case you can't tell, I just adored your mother. I'm so sorry I didn't get the chance to visit with her lately - What a huge void now for us all, but may your lives be filled with the precious memories and sweet love she showered on you.

My deepest sympathy to the family of Laurie. I first met Laurie when I was teaching at Sully Elementary and she was the assistant principal there. She brought such joy to everyone she met. She had a deep compassion to all as well. I only worked with her a couple of years, but occasionally ran into her over the years...she never forgot my name. What an inspiration Mrs. McDonald was to all, not just the children. As a parent of a child who attended Evergreen Mill Elementary for the years she was Principal there, it was evident Laurie made ALL feel special, intelligent and loved. This was her gift. Laurie was a beautiful lady inside as well as out-always sharing and encouraging. I was her cafeteria manager at Lowes Island. We did many special thing not only for students but also staff. Laurie was a mentor and friend to me when I worked/opened Algonkian ES back in 1989 and we came full circle when she was overseeing and protecting my grandson who started @ Evergreen Mill ES in 2008. I was at Ashburn Elementary back in 1985. This was the first year Mrs. McDonald was principal in Loudoun County Schools. What a wonderful principal she was too. We were a very small school back then but she never forgot a name or face. It is to my understanding that she never did no matter how many students were in her care. Condolences to her family, friends and all the children at Evergreen Elementary. God has called an extraordinary angel home. She was an angel to many.
