Lawrence Joseph Campbell, Jr., 88, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2026, at the Veterans Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Born on December 3, 1937, in Quincy, Massachusetts, Lawrence—known lovingly to family and friends as “Larry”—lived a remarkable life defined by service, devotion, and generosity.
A proud son of Quincy, Larry made his mark early as a championship high school basketball player, earning admiration for his drive and teamwork. Following his graduation, he chose a path of service, first as a police officer protecting his community, and later in September 1967, gaining his commission as an officer in the United States Army after he completed college.
While in the Army, Larry played a pivotal role in the computerization and modernization of military systems, helping usher the service into a new technological era. His vision and commitment earned him the Legion of Merit Medal—one of the nation’s highest distinctions for exceptionally meritorious service.
Upon his departure from the Army in May 1967, Larry continued his life of service through the private sector, dedicating his efforts to advancing the computerization of federal government agencies throughout Washington, D.C. His distinguished career not only supported the growth of national infrastructure but also inspired countless colleagues who shared his passion for innovation and excellence.
Beyond his professional achievements, Larry’s heart belonged to his family. He was a devoted husband to Patricia Campbell, his beloved wife of 62 years, who preceded him in death. Together, they created a family life full of joy, tradition, and adventure—filled with days spent boating on the Chesapeake Bay, family trips to the beautiful island of Bermuda, and the laughter of countless gatherings where his warmth and generosity touched everyone who attended.
Larry’s unwavering devotion to his family and community continues to live on through those who loved him most. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Robert Donaty; his sons and daughters-in-law, Lawrence and Robin Campbell of Sterling, VA, and John and Holly Campbell of Middletown, MD; nine grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. His love and wisdom will remain a constant presence in the lives of all who knew him.
