LEO MICHAEL HEANEY's Obituary
Leo M. Heaney, age 86, of Leesburg Virginia passed peacefully on May 3, 2023. A loving and faithful family member to his parents, siblings, wife, children and grandchildren.
Originally from the Boston Massachusetts area, he was born in 1936 to parents Michael and Nora Heaney. He was one of six children who proudly grew up in a close knit Irish-American family. He cherished all of the fun times with his brothers and sisters and loved to tell stories about his family members while growing up together.
After graduating from high school, Leo enlisted in the military and discovered his love of travel around the world. As a member of the U.S. Air Force, Leo was able to serve his country in numerous places around the globe including spots in Europe and Asia. He was a Vietnam Veteran and proud of the opportunities he had to serve his country.
Leo retired from the Air Force and settled with his wife Ellen and sons Matt and Billy back in Massachusetts where he worked for several local area companies before fully retiring. In his younger days Leo loved golfing and coaching his sons in Little League baseball. He was a lifelong fan of 50's and country music and was always ready for a game of cribbage against his brothers. His sense of humor and ability to make his family laugh will be remembered forever by those closest to him.
Leo and Ellen eventually moved to the Leesburg area to escape the Boston snow and over the years met many new friends while enjoying time spent relaxing together.
He is survived by his wife, son and 10 grandchildren. He was a great husband, father and 'papa' and will be forever missed.
A memorial mass will be held on August 2, at 4:00 PM, at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, on 21370 St. Theresa Lane, Ashburn, Va 20147.
Interment services with military honors will be held on Thursday, August 3, 2023, at 11 am at Arlington National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
