Leslie Weir's Obituary
Leslie D. Weir, retired CIA operative, died at his Leesburg home on Monday, June 27th, after a short illness. Mr. Weir was born May 9, 1923, in Oberlin, KS. His promising professional baseball career with the St. Louis Cardinals was interrupted by service in World War II, where he served as an intelligence officer, achieving the rank of Army Sgt. After the war, he graduated from the University of Virginia and joined the Central Intelligence Agency in 1948, serving in counter insurgency both in Europe and the Far East. He retired from the agency in 1970. An accomplished golfer, Mr. Weir was a volunteer with the USGA and VSGA. His passion was for homeless animals. He was a tireless advocate for the Friends of Homeless Animals, a no-kill shelter in Northern Virginia.
A Memorial Service for Mr. Weir will be held at the Chapel of Leisure World in Lansdowne, Leesburg, VA on Saturday, July 2nd at 11:00am. with a reception to follow. Burial will be at Quantico National Cemetery at a later date.
Mr. Weir is survived by his wife, Hideko, daughter Catherine of Austin, TX, son Steven of Wichita, KS, daughter Elizabeth of Cambridge, MD, and son Glenn of Ellicott City, MD.
