Louise Evelyn McCullough's Obituary
Louise McCullough passed away on Monday, February 1, 2016, at Falcons Landing in Potomac Falls, Virginia. Louise Evelyn Soper was born on June 26, 1924, in Oak Park, Illinois, grew up in Chicago and married Jim McCullough 70 years ago, on March 16, 1945. In addition to her role as the consummate Air Force wife and mother of their three children, Louise was a Red Cross volunteer for many years and an avid gardener. Jim and Louise visited all 50 states and enjoyed world travels, particularly European river cruises. Louise relished new experiences, cultures, foods and people, finding beauty and joy wherever she went.
A member of Mu Phi Epsilon, her lifelong passion was music; she was a pianist, soprano soloist and choral director. She led musical groups and organizations in Albuquerque, California, Clark Air Base (Philippines), Maryland, Lake of the Woods, Virginia, and Falcons Landing, where she and Jim retired in 2003. Louise loved sacred and secular music and found special pleasure in vocal and piano renditions of jazz, swing and popular tunes.
At Falcons Landing, Louise was an enthusiastic promoter of all things musical. She organized countless outings to concerts and operas, played piano for Sunday services, memorial services and Johnson Center patients. Louise volunteered at a local Head Start school where she loved reading to young students. She also worked enthusiastically to welcome every new Falcons Landing resident, promoting a strong community which actively supports members in hard times; her family now enjoys that support as we face her loss.
Louise leaves behind her beloved Jim; sister, Marjorie Heldt; children, Carol (Tal Godding), Nancy (Tom Hicks) and Bill (Didi McCullough); grandchildren Margy, Jimmy, Ben, Jason (Lauren) and Sean, as well as great grandchildren Ryley, Giselle, Olivia, Arianna and Eleanor. A grandson, Matthew, predeceased his loving grandmother.
A memorial service will be held at Falcons Landing Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at 2 pm.
Interment will be held at a later date.
