Lula Zadelle Koerkenmeier's Obituary
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Lula Zadelle (LuDelle) Koerkenmeier, who peacefully left us on August 12, 2025 at the age of 89 to join her adoring husband, Leo, in heaven. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend, known for her boundless love, warmth, and unwavering support. Her life was a testament to her generous spirit and dedication to her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Born on October 22, 1935 in Kansas City, MO, to William and Muriel Farmer, she went on to graduate from Leavenworth High School in 1954, where she was known for her editing skills, including holding the position of President of the Yearbook Committee. After graduation she attended Marymount University in Arlington, VA. Two years later she met and married the love of her life, Leo John Koerkenmeier, on June 2, 1956.
LuDelle was the heart of her family, a devoted wife to her late spouse, Leo, for nearly 70 years. She was a nurturing matriarch to 5 daughters, Cheryl Kodsi, Regina Dragoi (Dan), Pamela Abbott (Wayne), Angela Cook, and Sandra Khosrovi (Brian). Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, including her 12 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
LuDelle was known for her kindness, generosity, strength, sense of humor, and her love of reading, including her extensive collection of antique and vintage books. She was also known and admired for her and husband Leo’s beautiful and timeless love story. So much so, that she joined him in eternity only 24 days after his passing. LuDelle was always warm and welcoming to all who were lucky enough to meet her. She was a source of strength and inspiration to all who knew her, and her warm, welcoming presence will be deeply missed.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Cr. SE, Leesburg, Virginia. A reception will be held immediately afterwards at Parallel Wine & Whiskey Bar, located at 43135 Broadlands Center Plaza #121, Broadlands, VA 20148.
If you wish to contribute in some way, please consider a small donation to your favorite charity in lieu of flowers.
She will be laid to rest with her beloved husband in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA on Thursday, November 20, 2025 at 3 pm.
