Marcelina Adelaida Inciong Atienza's Obituary
On the evening of Saturday, September 12, 2020, Marcelina Adelaida Inciong Atienza, age 86
passed away peacefully in Sterling, Virginia. She was born in Mataas na kahoy, Batangas,
Philippines on August 8, 1934 to Elias Inciong and Victoria Loleng and was the 4th of 10
children.
Marcelina was known to many as “Daling”. After high school, she married her first and only love
Severino Dauz Atienza who preceded her in death in 1976. Her love for her husband never
ceased even after becoming a widow for 22 years. She remained a faithful wife wearing her
wedding ring until her last breath.
As a devoted mother, she overcame many challenges as she raised her children on her own.
She always has God in her heart and her strong faith in Him kept herself together even during
the most challenging and painful events in her life. She believed that…” Hindi ka pahihintulutan
ng Panginoong Diyos na pasanin ang isang problema na hindi mo makakayanan.” (“God will
not let you endure a problem that you won’t be able to handle. Just have faith and give your
heart to Him.”)
Marcelina was a wonderful “Lula”, as she was called by her grandchildren and
great-grandchildren, always had a loving heart taking care of them, and helped raise a few as
her very own children. Throughout her life, she shared so much of her love and kindness and
asked for nothing in return.
Though not born with a silver spoon, Marcelina was so blessed with a wonderful life. She was
able to travel to many places in the Philippines, United States and Europe, and was so proud to
have visited the Vatican in 2010. She enjoyed travelling and was always glad to experience new
things in life. She often said with a sense of gratefulness, “ Hindi ko akalain….”, (Who would’ve
thought…”)
She is survived by her 5 children, among them Renato Atienza (Virginia, USA), Susana
(Batangas, Philippines), Gemma Caidic (Batangas, Philippines), Ester Balatayo (Batangas,
Philippines), and Edgar Atienza (Batangas, Philippines}, and her 21 grandchildren and 25 great
grandchildren. She was preceded in death by daughters Julieta Yanos in 2012 and Susan
Atienza (Susana’s twin) at a younger age.
She will deeply be missed and the family ask for continued prayers during this difficult time.
Eternal rest is granted unto the soul of Inay Marcelina, O Lord, and let perpetual shine upon her.
A funeral service in memory of Marcelina will be held on Sunday, September 20,2020 at 8:30 to 11:30 am,
