Marcia A. Wright's Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we bid farewell to our cherished Marcia Ann Wright (mother, sister, friend) whose departure on 6/7/2024 left a void impossible to fill. Marcia graced this world with a presence that exuded warmth, compassion, courage and boundless inspiration.
Marcia was one of 6 children born to Owen and Thelma Henderson (Thayer) on 10/1/1941 in Washington, DC. Her mother was a homemaker, and her father was a butcher in Baltimore, MD.
Marcia went to Western Highschool, an all-girls school, in Baltimore, MD. She stayed in touch with several friends from high school and went to most, if not all, of her high school reunions.
At the age of 18, Marcia’s brother James “Pete” Henderson introduced her to James W. Wright, and they married a month before her 19th birthday. Together they had three children, James, Tracy and Michael. When her parents passed away in her 20’s, her and her husband took her two younger sisters Alice and Terry under their wings. She had a servant’s heart, always welcoming others into her circle of family and friends and was very protective of her children.
Marcia was a Senior Secretary, Personal Assistant, Procurement Assistant and Branch Secretary. She worked for the Chesapeake & Potomac Phone Company, American College of Cardiology, U.S. Department of Health and Human services and retired from NIH after 10 years of service with the government. She received several awards in recognition and appreciation of sustained high quality work performance and consistently outstanding performance.
Marcia was a member of several churches over the years, a Methodist church in Rockville MD, Montgomery Hills Baptist Church in Silver Spring, MD and Lisbon United Methodist Church in Lisbon, MD. She not only went to church but participated in fellowship in many ways.
Marcia was an avid supporter of Muscular Dystrophy (MD) and other charities, but MD was closest to her heart as her youngest son, Michael, succumbed to Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy a month before his 27th birthday.
Marcia is survived by her son James M Wright, daughter Tracy A Wright, sister Terry McCarthy, grandson Alex Wright, grandniece Patricia McCallum and countless other family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at Loudoun Funeral Chapel, Leesburg, VA on June 20th at 10 am. Marcia will be laid to rest that afternoon at Norbeck Memorial Park in Olney, MD where her son Michael is buried.
