Margaret Lenore Halminski's Obituary
Margaret Lenore Halminski
1923-2016
Margaret Lenore Halminski passed away peacefully on April 12th, surrounded by her loving children. She was a resident of Lansdowne Woods since 1999, when she moved into Blue Ridge with Sylvester, her husband of 59 years. Known as Maggie by her friends, she was an active member in her community as chair and vice chair of the Lansdowne Woods Activities Committee, Budget and Finance Committee, and Lansdowne Woods Women of Note. She was also an avid sports enthusiast and bridge player for all of her life.
Born Margaret Lenore Polk on December 30, 1923 in Santa Monica, California, Maggie married her high school sweetheart, a career Naval officer, and began raising a family and traveling the world. Tours included Japan, Newfoundland and Guam as well as a number of stateside destinations. During that time, she volunteered for many years as a Grey Lady, caring for patients in overseas military hospitals as well as serving on various sports committees in the schools her children attended. Her seven children were born in various places and raised in the Catholic Faith.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, and is survived by seven children of 4 girls and 3 boys, as well as 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Maggie was a friend to everyone she met. She had a wonderful sense of humor, even in her final days. Her passing marks the end of a long and fulfilling life and many of us will miss her dearly.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Leesburg, Virginia at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, April 19. Burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery on Tuesday, July 5, 2016.
The family would like to thank Capitol Caring Hospice and the team of professionals who assisted in making her last days tranquil and comfortable.
