Maria M. Lopez's Obituary
Maria Monserrate Lopez, 72, of Leesburg, VA, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Loudoun Hospital.
Born on January 17, 1942 in Puerto Rico she was the daughter of the late Luis Lopez and the late Monserrate Ortiz. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son, Orlando Pinero and her husband Jose A. Pinero.
She is survived by her daughter, Maritza Irizarry; grandchildren Julie, Valeria and Yulio; brothers Luis, Angel, and Jose Lopez; sisters Delia, Maribel, Mercedes, and Priscilla Lopez.
Maria was an active member of her community in Ceiba, Puerto Rico, where she served as council member and as the Public Relations Officer under the administration of Mayor Gerardo A. Cruz. Before retiring she was the Housekeeping Supervisor at Westin Rio Mar, a job she did with much pride and joy. She also organized yearly parades and pageants, which was a passion of hers. She was greatly loved by everyone she touched.
A memorial service was held at 5:30 PM on Friday, January 9, 2015 at Loudoun Funeral Chapel. Maria will be inurned at a later date in Puerto Rico next to her son.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The American Stroke Association.
