Marie Madeline Murphy's Obituary
Marie M. Murphy died of natural causes on June 27, 2015 in Leesburg, Virginia. She was born on February 25, 1923 in Audubon, New Jersey to Harry J. and Emma M. (Pechmann) Wittman. Marie attended Audubon schools where she developed a love for photography. She also excelled at cooking and enjoyed entertaining guests in her home her entire life. During WWII Marie worked as a volunteer nurses’ aide at West Jersey Hospital in Camden, New Jersey. She married William R. Murphy on September 14, 1951 in Camden, New Jersey.
Marie was a Food and Beverage Manager for Holiday Inns in New Jersey and Pennsylvania for many years. In 1976 because of her work at The Holiday Inn at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, Marie was honored for her guidance, inspiration, and support of youth participants of the Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA).
In retirement, she served as a Board Officer for the Sorrento East Villas in Nokomis, Florida. Marie was also active in The Ivy League and Penn Clubs of Sarasota and supported her husband in his role as president for both organizations. She is survived by her children, William Lee Fiddler (Mary Agnes) of Allen, Maryland, Robin Murphy-Ford of Rockledge, Florida, and Megan Davis (James) of Sterling, Virginia, nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Marie was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Bill, her infant son, Harry, and great grandson Andrew Palmer. Marie will be interred next to her husband in Sarasota National Cemetery of Sarasota, Florida.
