Marilyn Jean Yowell's Obituary
Marilyn Yowell passed away on Sept 27, 2009 at her home in Falcons Landing Retirement Community, VA. Marilyn was born on Nov 8th, 1935 in Akron, OH. She attended grade school and secondary school in Akron, and then attended the University of Akron. While at the University, she met her future husband, Bob Yowell. They were married in 1956. They raised two sons, Robert and Richard.
Bob entered the US Air Force in 1958 and Marilyn then started her career as an Air Force wife. She accompanied Bob on tours in Ohio, Colorado, England, Texas, Virginia, two tours in Washington, DC, Florida, Germany and Georgia. While Bob was in Thailand Marilyn watched over the boys. On each of their assignments Marilyn remained active through her volunteer work at hospitals, as a manger of a base thrift shop, and served in various capacities in Air Force wives clubs. In addition to these volunteer pursuits, she, like most service wives became skilled at selling the family car or house, packing and unpacking, and enrolling the boys in schools while at the same time supporting her husband’s career.
When the challenge came up, she had mini-careers as an Avon Sales Representative, as a loan processor at a Real Estate company, in the accounting section of a large department store, and in an office section of the 1990 Census. She was active in her local church, especially with its senior members, planning luncheons, traveling to local dinner theaters, and local theaters. Before illness curtailed her participation, she supported various volunteer groups at Falcons Landing.
Her husband of VA, sons Robert and Richard of MD, granddaughter Jaimi of MD, sister Kay and husband Mike of Florida, sister in law Norma Jean Rogers and husband Gerry of Akron, OH survive Marilyn.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00pm on Thursday October 15th, 2009 at Falcons Landing Memorial Chapel 20522 Falcons Landing Cr. Potomac Falls, VA.
