Dearest Catherine,
I learned last Friday night that your dearest dad had left us for Heaven. You cannot imagine how sad I was to learn that he was gone and buried and I didn't even know. How I would have been at his funeral had I known....I was so very, very, very deeply saddened. I told him numerous times how sorry I was not to be there. I do feel a deep obligation to pray and bury the dead as these are Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy. Marty was such a dear friend to me. I wasn't there for him.
Your dad was the first person I met when I moved to Leesburg 6 years ago. I was helping the movers unpack the van and he was walking up the sidewalk to attend noon Mass next to my house. He gave me a big smile and a warm hand shake and introduced himself as Marty. I have felt close to him ever since. Recently, he encouraged me to volunteer at Catholic Charities ( I worked at the one in Little Rock ) and I will, in honor of him.
I had to move out of my house for 2 weeks, due to some renovation and I had no computer to check emails and I was just out of touch with St. John's. I am staying at my daughter's house, ( Ashley Cristofaro ) near OLOH.
Your dad went to Heaven on my birthday, Feb.15. I will ALWAYS remember him.
My love and prayers to you and your family,
In Christ,
Elizabeth Rice,
