Mary Virginia Hall's Obituary
Mary Virginia Larkin Hall, 87, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at her home in Ashburn, with her family at her side.
Mrs. Hall was born on July 28, 1925, in Washington, D.C. She was the oldest of four children, all girls, born to William Eugene Larkin and Catherine Elizabeth Meredith. During high school and after graduation, she worked for the War Department.
During World War II, she met Earl Hall, a Minnesota native who was stationed in the Washington area before being shipped to Europe. They married in January 1946 after his return to the United States. They raised six children in Falls Church before retiring to Loudoun County. Mr. Hall died in 2004.
Mrs. Hall worked for many years and retired from the Interior Department. After retirement, she volunteered for several years for the Loudoun County Victim Witness Program. She also volunteered for more than 22 years at what is now Inova Loudoun Hospital. She worked at the hospital’s information desk and was one of the first people patients and family saw on entering the hospital. She was a member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Ashburn. She was also a regular at the twice weekly poker games at the Senior Center of Countryside and the weekly game at her home at the Ashby Ponds retirement community. She was also a fan of the Washington Redskins and a lifelong bingo player.
She is survived by five sons and one daughter: James Hall of Fredericksburg, Douglas Hall of Anchorage, Alaska, Bernard Hall and wife Janmarie of Hamilton, Thomas Hall of Lovettsville, William Hall and wife Sharon of Springfield and Sharon Wizieck of Chesapeake; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held Tuesday, Jan. 8, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Leesburg. Burial will follow at the Union Cemetery in Leesburg. The family will receive friends on Monday, Jan. 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Loudoun Funeral Chapel in Leesburg.
