Mary Elizabeth Halpin Alden
Mary Alden, 94, formerly of Arlington, VA, passed away on October 10th at Meadow Glen of Leesburg. Daughter of Michael Halpin and Nora Grimes Halpin, Mary was born and raised in Kingston, PA. At her high school graduation event she met the love of her life, John “Jack” Leonard Alden. They married in 1945 after Jack’s return from service in WWII. They lived in California and then New York where Mary worked as a secretary for publishing house Doubleday. In 1955 they relocated to Arlington where they both started jobs at the Pentagon. Mary retired in 1957 to be a full time mother and homemaker. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters Court Queen of Peace. She resided in Arlington until 2014.
Mary is survived by her loving family-- daughter, Claire Griffith, of Sterling, and granddaughters Theresa Griffith, Leanne Griffith, and Carly Griffith. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack, and siblings Claire Moore, Edmund Halpin, and John Halpin, Sr.
Visitation will be at Loudoun Funeral Chapel on Thursday, October 15th from 6 until 7 PM.
A service of remembrance will follow at 7 PM.
Interment will be at Quantico National Cemetery on Friday, October 16th at 11 AM.
