Mary Louise Hearn's Obituary
Hearn, Mary L. (age 93)
Mary died on her birthday, December 6, 2015, at Inova Loudoun Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Leesburg, Va. For the past 9 years she lived at Sunrise of Leesburg and had been a long time resident of Old Town Alexandria, Va. and Talcottville, NY. Mary Louise Fear, daughter of Louise Mary (Porter) and Frank Leon Fear, was born in Jamaica, Queens, NY and grew up in Lowville, NY. She attended Skidmore College and graduated from Katharine Gibbs School. After Work War II, she married Michael P. Hearn, whom she met at a USO dance during the war. She worked for the Veterans Administration in Denver, CO and Boston, MA and became a homemaker and military wife after her second child was born. As the wife of a U.S. Marine, she sacrificed much for her family. She lived in Camp Pendleton, CA and Quantico, VA, and returned to her childhood home to live in Lowville when her husband was frequently deployed overseas and she had primary responsibility for raising her children.
An avid collector of antiques, she loved American history and was descended from numerous Puritans and Quakers who settled in the U.S. in the 1600’s. Five of her ancestors fought in the American Revolution. She enjoyed restoring her historic houses, both of which were on the register of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
Her husband of over 50 years pre-deceased her in 2001. She is survived by her children, Cynthia (Jonathan) Dorfman, Michael Patrick Hearn, Colleen Hearn Dean and Christopher (Karen) Hearn. Sister of Clara Fear Hall. Grandmother of five grandchildren, Emily (David) Reiss, Elysia Dean, Kayleigh Hearn, Dr. Caroline Dorfman (Jeffrey Friedlander), and Rebecca Dean and one great-grandson Davis Reiss.
