Mary Jane Ottenad, 94 of Lovettsville, Virginia passed on Thursday, March 24, 2016, at Heritage Hall in Leesburg, Virginia.
Born Saturday, January 21, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Henry Edmunds and the late Hulda Schader Edmunds. She was the wife of the late Thomas Ottenad, who passed in 1999.
The Ottenad's both grew up in St. Louis, MO, where they met and married in 1946. Tom's career at the St. Louis Post Dispatch brought them to Washington. They settled in Kensington, Maryland. Jane became a 6th teacher at the Parkwood Elementary School in Montgomery County Public Schools. While Tom, a newspaper man went downtown and around the world covering stories and politics. Jane sometimes went along and met many Presidents, but her favorite was JFK.
Jane and her husband loved log cabins. They built their first log cabin while living in Missouri. In the 1970's they began the search for a weekend log cabin in Virginia and found it in Lovettsville. They loving restored the two room cabin and cleared the grounds. They went out every weekend and holiday to work on the cabin and to have fun, They both retired in the 19990's. They added an addition to the cabin and they became full time Virginians. Jane loved working in the garden, enjoyed fishing in the Potomac, playing at golfing and water color painting. Jane was a realist with a wonderful sense of humor but at times could be a bit formidable. She made many friends and leaves for them her numerous witty 'Jane sayings'. The last being, "I am old and it is time"
