Mary A. Smith's Obituary
MARY A. SMITH, 90, of Ashburn, Virginia died on Friday, February 4, 2022. Mary was born on Friday, April 3, 1931 in New York, New York. She was the second of six children born to the late Denis and Elizabeth O'Shea, both of whom were born in Ireland. Mary graduated in 1949 from Julia Richmond High School in New York City.
Married in 1959, Mary devoted herself to her family as a lifelong homemaker. The family eventually moved from New York to Rhode Island and finally settled in Burke, Virginia in 1977. Most recently, Mary resided in Ashburn, VA and was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church.
Mary was a member of the Legion of Mary and, for many years, volunteered at Birthright and visited the elderly at the Burke Health Care Center. Mary always had a love for the elderly, which began as a teenager when she volunteered with the Little Sisters of the Poor.
Mary leaves her family to cherish her memory including her beloved husband of 62 years, Hugh A. Smith; her devoted children, a son, Hugh T. Smith of Leesburg, VA; daughters, Ellen A. Anderson of St. Petersburg, FL, and Nancy E. Larson of Fort Worth, TX; nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and fifteen nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church 101 Oak Crest Manor Drive Leesburg, Virginia 20176.
Interment will follow in Cool Spring Cemetery, 901 Cool Spring Ln, Berryville, VA 22611.
