MARY MAY SOWERWINE's Obituary
Mary passed away on April 11, 2023 surrounded by the love of her son Andy and daughter Kate. Mary was born in Germany on June 21, 1947 and raised in Maryland by her loving parents David Hugh May and Mary Louise Plane May. Mary passed on to her children and grandchildren the love of adventure, travel and the enjoyment of life. She instilled in them that being normal was over-rated and taught them how to tap into their artistic abilities. She was a talented self-taught artist. Mary was a free spirit that touched the lives of all she met with happiness and joy. Her grandkids will tell you that she was not a normal grandma and they use the words “silly”, “eccentric” and “creative” to describe her. She loved seeing Jai perform in plays and talk about basketball, teaching and watching Ivy paint, driving in the fast lane with Drew, and watching all of her grandkids grow and blossom into loving and caring people.
She is survived by her brother Ben May, sister Patty Gordon, children Shannon David Sowerwine, Andy Sowerwine and Kate Sowerwine and her grandchildren Caitlin Rutz, Kieren Sowerwine, Drew Sowerwine, Julia Sowerwine, Jai Srinivasan, Sophia Sowerwine and Ivy Srinivasan.
A celebration of life will begin at 1 pm on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at the Blue Ridge at Lansdowne Woods Condominium, 19375 Cypress Ridge Terrace, Leesburg, VA 20176.
Interment will be held privately by the family.
