Mary Phillips Tomlin's Obituary
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of MARY PHILLIPS TOMLIN who passed on Monday, July 7, 2025, in Leesburg, Virginia, at the age of 93. Born in Leesburg, Virginia in 1932, Mary was a lifelong resident of Leesburg. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Cyrus (Smitty) Tomlin, her parents, Lonie Phillips and Bartie Clark Peyton, her sister, Marguerite Williams and her niece, Janette Martin.
Mary began her career with Fairfax County as a Clerk Typist and ended her career 37 years later with Fairfax County as the Chief of Taxation with the Department of Assessments. After enjoying her retirement for several years, she returned to the workforce and worked another 10 years for Microcube, an engineering firm in Leesburg.
Mary leaves many to cherish her memory including her daughter, Judy Dorsett (Terry), nieces, Donna Chizum (Terry) and Carol Tibbs (Leroy), as well as many grand and great grand nieces and nephews.
Mary was adored by her family, friends and community and will be remembered for her kindness and compassion, her great memory, and most of all the love she had for her family and friends. She leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will continue to inspire and comfort those who knew her.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Monday, July 14, 2025, at Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Cr. SE, Leesburg, Virginia. A Funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM on Monday at Loudoun Funeral Chapel. Mary will be laid to rest with her husband Smitty in Leesburg Union Cemetery, Leesburg, VA.
