Mary Thomas Walters' Obituary
Mary Thomas Walters, 92, of Leesburg, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Loudoun Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Rolesville, North Carolina to the late William Thomas Debnam and late Amie Perry Debnam Lane, she was also preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Newton Alton Walters, one brothers, Warren Debnam and Jimmy Spence Lane and her sister Peggy Ferrell.
She is survived by her five daughters: Ann Mulqueen (Dan) of Strasburg, VA; Ida Walters (Harry Watson) of Detroit, Michigan; Margaret Walters of Taos, New Mexico; Patricia Anderson of Leesburg, Virginia; and Viki Gustavson (Carl) of Cabo, Mexico. She was affectionately known as “Big Mama” to her 17 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Her sisters, Janet Bartlett of Oakridge, TN and Myrtle (Reynolds) Carnevale of Fayetteville, NC, many nieces and nephews also survive her as well as two special friends, Silvia Barros of Reston, VA and Mary Moreland of Arlington, VA.
The family will receive friends from 4 PM until 7 PM on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Loudoun Funeral Chapel in Leesburg.
A funeral service will be held at Rolesville Baptist Church, Rolesville, North Carolina at 12:00 PM on Monday, August 19, 2013 with the Reverend Marshall Neathery and the Reverend Dr. Randy Bridges officiating. Burial will follow in the Rolesville Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
“Big Mama” was 92 years young and known for her frank wit coupled with total graciousness. That plus her decency, integrity, and general toughness has set an enduring legacy. She will be greatly missed by her family and many admiring friends.
