Mary Isabelle Tipton's Obituary
MRS. MARY ISABELLE (WOOD) TIPTON, 90, a resident of Falcons Landing in Potomac Falls, Virginia, died on Friday March 30, 2007 at the Johnson Center.
Mrs. Tipton was born August 1, 1916 in Mansfield, Ohio to the late James C. and Nellie Irene Bloom Wood. She attended the University of Southern California and graduated from Kent State University in 1937. After a short period of teaching in Kent, Ohio, Mrs. Tipton married Henry C. Tipton, a naval officer, and over the next 28 years was faced with the task of moving her family frequently throughout the U.S. and overseas to meet the fluid duty requirements of a military life. Mrs. Tipton came to Loudoun County in 1965 after her husband’s retirement from the United States Navy. Mrs. Tipton resided in Middleburg, VA for many years while her husband was the business manager of Fox Croft. She was active in the affairs of the Loudoun Woman’s Club, the Ladies Board of the Loudoun Memorial Hospital and the Goose Creek Herb Society. She also was a charter member of the AAUW. She assisted in fund raising efforts for the Loudoun Memorial Hospital and was a long time volunteer with that institution.
Mrs. Tipton is survived by her beloved husband of 69 years: Captain Henry Clay Tipton, USN Retired of Potomac Falls; four children: John E. Tipton of Bonita Springs, Fl., Pat Longley of Lewisburg, PA, Abigail Tipton of Reston, VA, Priscilla T. and husband Rob O’Donnell of Purcellville, VA; three grandchildren: Alexa Lewis, Tip O’Donnell, Robbie O’Donnell.
Graveside Services will be held privately at the United States Navel Academy Cemetery in Annapolis, Maryland during August 2007.
