Matthew "Matt" Stewart Price's Obituary
Matthew “Matt” Stewart Price, 47, passed away suddenly on Sunday, December 10, 2023. He will forever remain in our hearts as our beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend. Matt was in the prime of his life and blessed the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His loss leaves an irreplaceable void for those who knew and loved him most.
Matt is the oldest son of Barbara Ann ([nee Stewart] deceased) and Kelly Roy Price and brother to Jonathan Price. Matt was born on September 17, 1976, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He spent his childhood and youth in nearby Brighton. He loved those he grew up with and always had a fondness for Michigan.
One of the things that we loved about Matt was how he knew something about everything. His educational journey took him to Wayne State University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Communications, Public Relations, and Advertising. Matt’s intellect was based on more than academic success. He was a voracious reader and student of the world and loved to answer hard questions from his beloved family. But Matt was so much more than smart. Those who know him best say he is charismatic, cool, fun, nerdy, and goofy.
Matt took a brief, but important, pause from his education when he decided to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Los Angeles, California. It was here that he developed a love of the Spanish language, real street tacos, the people he served, and the gospel of Jesus Christ. As a missionary he was as comfortable meeting with the elites of LA as he was talking about God to gang members on the street. Matt’s ability to connect with anyone is one of his most endearing traits. To know Matt was to love him.
After his mission his attention turned to an equally important journey: finding the love of his life. He met his wife Mary at church and bonded over their mutual love of the Spanish language, but it was his sense of humor and understated charm that won Mary’s heart. Together, they forged a relationship that was sealed for time and all eternity in the Detroit, Michigan Temple in 2006. Their marriage was based on everything good in the world and featured a healthy balance of fun, laughter, family time, and faith. Although Matt’s passing separates them in this mortal life, their combined hope and faith in the eternal nature of marriage ensures their love will continue forever.
Matt and Mary together brought five amazing children into the world: Ruby (15), Belle (14), George (11), Hannah (10) and Louisa (2). The happiness, comfort, and well-being of their children has always been a top priority for Matt. He was an energetic father, and his children were everything to him. As a result, all his free time, energy, and resources were devoted to them. He knew the importance of being a great father and made the sacrifices necessary to create light, laughter, and levity in their lives. Matt gave his family every available minute and could be found reading, playing, making up funny names, going on rides, going to the park, tucking them in at night, rolling around on the floor, or playing games. We will miss him more than any words can convey.
Matt was a diligent, intelligent, hard worker. While his work did not occupy his whole life, he was able to find the right balance and was successful at all he did professionally. His career was varied and included time in different advertising agencies, a great stretch at Volkswagen in Digital Marketing, and most recently as a Cyber Security Product Manager at Wells Fargo. He was seen as a confident, forward-thinking, and generous colleague. Matt was trusted and beloved by all he worked with and will be missed.
As is often the case, Matt’s passing was completely unexpected. He leaves behind a bereft family who will grieve his passing and long for their reunion. The family is united in their belief that this life is not the end. We know Matt continues to live and he is cheering and working for us on the other side of the veil. While we will miss him and will never heal completely, we take comfort in the knowledge and faith in Jesus Christ. Because Christ lives, we will live again too. We look forward to the day when we will be together again.
A special family viewing will be held on Sunday Dec 17, 2023 at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel in Leesburg, Va. Matt’s family would be honored to have friends and family attend his viewing and Funeral Services on Monday December 18, 2023 starting at 10am for the viewing and 11 for the funeral.
We offer a heartfelt thanks to all who have shared memories, provided relief, offered financial help, brought food and other comforts, reached out, and prayed for our family. We have felt your love, need it, and will treasure it always.
