MELVIN DOUGLAS SATTERWHITE SR.'s Obituary
Rev. Melvin Douglas Satterwhite Sr., 82, of Sterling, Virginia, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on May 13th, 2022. Doug was born July 6, 1939 in Mecklenberg, North Carolina. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Vivian Satterwhite; his children LCDR Melvin Douglas (Alyson) Satterwhite, Jr. (Ret.), Susan (Bill) Coggins, Rear Admiral Stuart (Michelle) Satterwhite, and Colleen (Michael) Selling; his grandchildren Rachel (Chris) Chorney, Rebekah Satterwhite, Matthew (Katie) Satterwhite, Mark Satterwhite, David (Lauren) Coggins, Victoria Coggins, Debbie (Anshall) Iqbal, Ashley (Daniel) Franceschina, Ainsley-Brooke Satterwhite, Alexis Satterwhite, Elise Selling, Claire Selling, Shawn Selling, and Jesse Selling; and his great grandchildren Jack Chorney, Weston Selling, and Lavinia Franceschina. He is also survived by his sister Beverly (David) Warfield, his brother-in-law Rev. Larry Katz, and his brother-in-law Fred Simmons. He was preceded in death by his parents Jasper and Rosa Lee Satterwhite, his brother Jasper Taylor Satterwhite Jr, his sister Jaqueline Satterwhite Katz, and his sister Judy Simmons.
He graduated from High School in Alexandria, Virginia. In his 20's he met Vivian Helmick. They quickly fell in love and were married on May 20, 1961. Doug was very proud of his family and providing for them was important to him. He was an award-winning life insurance agent for Southland Life Insurance Company for many years. Doug loved Jesus and was devoted to spreading the word of God. He was passionate about his ministry in local retirement homes and senior centers, leading Bible studies, and sharing Christ. Doug was a founding pastor of Cascades Bible Church. His tireless efforts in several Sterling area churches will leave a lasting impact on many. Doug enjoyed his work in local politics and had many friends in the Loudoun County Republican Committee. Most of all Doug will be remembered for his winning smile, love of storytelling, and charismatic personality.
Graveside services for Melvin Douglas Satterwhite Sr. will be held at 1:00p.m. on Thursday, May 19 at the Mount Comfort Cemetery located at 6600 South Kings Highway, Alexandria, Virginia. His family will be present to welcome friends and loved ones.
