Michael Sean Athey's Obituary
Michael Sean Athey, 51 years old, of Point of Rocks, Maryland, passed away on July 13, 2019. He was born in Leesburg, Virginia on February 13, 1968 to parents James C. Athey and Jo Ann Kerrigan Athey. He is survived by his son, Michael Sean Athey, Jr., grandchildren Aiden and Giada Athey, mother Jo Ann Kerrigan Athey, brother Mark Athey (wife Jackie George Athey), brother Mitchell Athey (wife Debra Jenkins Athey), sister Michele Coates (husband Danny Coates), and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also remembered by his close friend, Christy Wilson, who was always there for him.
Michael grew up working beside his siblings on his family farm and in his father’s construction company, where he developed his love for operating heavy equipment.
He enjoyed riding dirt bikes, fishing in his family pond, cutting firewood to “keep everyone warm”, gardening, and camping. He loved baking and sharing his apple bread recipe, feeding his birds and squirrels, and just being outdoors.
Michael had a kind heart and was always willing to help those in need; taking in strays - two legged or four. He had a way of finding the bright side of any situation and could always make you laugh or at least shake your head. He was full of humor, lighthearted, and always wore a smile. He was a lover of many things but most importantly he loved and cherished his family.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, July 19, 2019 from 7 to 9 PM at Loudoun Funeral Chapel.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2019 from 11 to 11:30am at Furnace Mountain Cemetery, 12946 James Monroe Hwy, Leesburg, VA 20176.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Loudoun County Animal Shelter 39820 Charles Town Pike, Waterford, VA 20197.
